Harold Mabern – I Want You Back b/w Funk Inc. – Sister Janie – BGP 7″

This 33rpm 7-incher features two classics of the Acid Jazz era never before on single. Pianist Harold Mabern’s take on the Jackson 5’s ‘I Want You Back’ is propelled on a non-stop rhythm courtesy of Idris Muhammad and fiery trumpet from Lee Morgan. On the flip is Indianapolis group Funk Inc. Highly rated by DJs around the world, their ‘Sister Janie’ – clearly influenced by James Brown’s ‘Sex Machine’ – is as funky as Jazz ever got.
