When Ace compilers Mick Patrick and Peter Gibbon turned up the previously unheard Charmaines track ‘I Don’t Wanna Lose Him’ in the early noughties, there was much excitement in the Northern Soul world. It could have been designed for those dancefloors and now it is considered by many to be even better than their issued floor-filler ‘Eternally’. When we released it as a Kent anniversary promo 45 it became “massive”, as they say, and the limited press started to go for a then-unheard of £50 and now fetches £200 and rising; at last it is available at an affordable price. The flip is a glorious beat ballad from Walter Jackson on vinyl for the first time.
