The Moniques – I Feel a Groove Comin’ On b/w Combo Kings – Groovey – Record Shack AT 7″ MISPRINT

*RARE MISPRINT* This was the first version of our release after Philly producer Frank Bendinelli stated ‘I can’t remember the name of the girls that were singing, most likely it was The Moniques’. Of course this can happen with forgotten 50+year old recordings, which could even have been taken at some ‘studio jam session’ never meant to be released. Shortly later he confirmed it would have been ‘South Side’, could be that it was the same artists involved and that a band name was not fixed at the time. So it got released under artist name ‘South Side’. Name on label got corrected and sent to the pressing plant immediately. Labels with ‘Moniques’ had been printed before in qty and a few copies were made with these labels on before new ‘South Side’ ones were put into the machine and the whole 500-run got made with ‘South Side’ on.

We only have TWO ‘Moniques-misprints’ on offer here, a few more might be circulating, stamper/matrix/vinyl is the same on both, nevertheless this is a great collector’s item!

Two previously unreleased TOP TUNES outta Philadelphia, out here for the first time EVER, this is an ‘original Austrian-only’ FIRST PRESS and 100% ‘OVO’ (Original Vinyl Only) compatible.

The KILLER funky Soul dancefloor destroyer on our A-side kicks with ‘Tighten Up’ and energetic ‘Dancefloor Jazz’ flavas, it originates from Philadelphia, works perfect on ‘progressive’ Northern Soul floors and smashes any Deep/Rare Funk nite.

On the flip we have a groovin’ Hammond mover, something JTQ would have done, but this is an unreleased, vintage, driving early 60s instro cover of Barrett Strong’s legendary ‘Money’ classic, a sure-shot at any Mod event, we’d call it ‘Instrumental R’n’B’ , also suiting perfectly into the ‘Mod Jazz’ thing, it also got labelled as ‘Popcorn’. It’s still some kinda ‘secret weapon’ which hasn’t been played out too inflationary yet, and it’s MORE than 100% MOD!

The ‘Sopranos connection’: This came as we’ve been told that our legendary Philly producer ‘Frank Bendinelli’, who recorded the tunes featured here, could have been the ‘template’ for retired music conductor ‘Hesh’ from the series’ episode #10 where he clashes with gangsta rapper ‘Massive Genius’ arguing over music rights and artist royalities and mentions that ‘A Hit Is A Hit’.

Fact is that US-Italian ‘mafia’ often had their ‘hands’ on music business back then with artists like Frankie Valli or Dean Parrish being some known proto-examples. Having named ourselves the ‘Soul Mafia’ here in the past, we find it quite ‘bizarre’ to have possibly worked with the original ‘familia’, but we do not want to put top Philly legend Mr. Bendinelli into some ‘cliché-pocket’.
